What Is Paint Correction?
Restore the Paint Your Car Was Born With
Paint correction is the process of removing surface defects from your car's clear coat using professional-grade machine polishers. The result is deep, mirror-like paint — not a wax covering the damage.
What We Remove
Swirl marks from automatic car washes. Fine scratches and buffer trails from previous improper polishing. Water spot etching from Hawaii's hard mineral-rich water. Oxidation and UV fading. Hologram marks. Light scratches from daily driving.
Paint correction does not cover scratches that go through the clear coat to the base coat or primer — those require touch-up paint. We'll tell you exactly what we can and can't fix before we start.

Correction Stages
Choose Your Level of Correction
Every car is different. We inspect your paint under a high-intensity light source and recommend the right stage for your goals and budget.
01
Single Stage
One polish pass to remove light swirl marks and improve gloss. Best for newer vehicles or paint in good overall condition. The ideal prep before applying a ceramic coating.
02
Two Stage
A compound pass to remove deeper scratches and oxidation, followed by a refining polish to restore clarity and gloss. Most popular — handles 85–95% of common paint defects on Oahu vehicles.
03
Multi-Stage
For heavily neglected or scratched paint. Multiple compound and polish passes with paint depth measurements throughout. Show-car results for vehicles that need the full treatment.

The Process
How We Do Paint Correction
Paint correction is not a quick detail. Done properly it takes a full day — sometimes two. No shortcuts. No skipped steps.
01
Decontamination Wash
Iron remover, clay bar, and full hand wash before any polisher touches the car. Polishing over contamination drives it deeper into the clear coat.
02
Paint Depth Measurement
We gauge every panel before we cut. Hawaii's sun is relentless — many cars have had cheap respray work. We need to know what we're working with.
03
Test Panel
We test one section first to dial in the correct compound and pad combination for your specific paint before committing to the full car.
04
Machine Polishing
We work panel by panel under high-powered inspection lighting. The goal isn't speed — it's eliminating every agreed defect before moving on.
05
Final Inspection
Full inspection under inspection lamps at multiple angles once complete. If we find a missed area we go back and correct it. Period.
06
Protection Recommendation
Corrected paint is vulnerable. We walk you through coating and Liquid PPF options to lock in your results before anything touches the paint again.
The Hawaii Problem
Why Honolulu Cars Need This More Than Most
Hawaii's environment is uniquely harsh on automotive paint. If your car lives on Oahu, it's fighting things most mainland cars never face.
UV Index 11+
Oahu regularly hits UV index 11–12 — among the highest in the US. UV-induced oxidation and clear coat degradation happen faster here than anywhere on the mainland.
Hard Water Etching
Hawaii's mineral-rich water leaves calcium deposits that etch into unprotected clear coat and glass — leaving permanent marks that only correction removes.
Salt Air
Salt-laden ocean air deposits onto paint surfaces daily across all of Oahu. Salt works into micro-scratches and accelerates oxidation over time.
Tree Sap & Organic Fallout
Hawaii's lush tree coverage means sap, pollen, and organic fallout land on paint constantly. Left to bake in the sun, these bond to clear coat and require correction to remove.
Trade Wind Abrasion
Fine particulates carried by trade winds act as a constant abrasive. Cars parked outside in Honolulu accumulate surface scratches faster than owners realize.
Vog & Acid Rain
Volcanic smog from the Big Island drifts to Oahu and deposits sulfur dioxide on paint. Combined with acid rain on the windward side, this causes micro-etching that builds up over time.
Don't Stop at Correction
Lock In the Results
Corrected paint is the cleanest your car's surface will ever be. Apply protection immediately after — before anything has a chance to touch it.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does paint correction take?
A single-stage correction takes 4–6 hours. Two-stage work on a full-size vehicle typically takes a full day. Multi-stage jobs or heavily neglected paint can require two days. We'll give you a realistic timeline when we inspect the car in person.
Will it remove all my scratches?
Paint correction removes defects within the clear coat layer. Scratches that penetrate through to the base coat, primer, or bare metal cannot be corrected by polishing — they require touch-up paint or respray. We'll be honest about what we can and cannot fix before we start.
Does paint correction damage the paint?
Done correctly — with paint depth measurement and the right compound-pad combination — no. Done incorrectly on thin paint without checking depth first, it can cause serious problems. This is why we gauge every panel before cutting and always test a section first.
Do I need paint correction before a ceramic coating?
Yes — if your paint has visible defects. A ceramic coating locks in your paint exactly as it is. For vehicles over 3 months old, NanoPro requires machine polishing prior to application — it's in their warranty terms. Correct first, protect second.
How long will the results last?
Corrected paint without protection will start accumulating new swirl marks the first time it's washed carelessly. With a quality ceramic coating applied afterward, the clarity can last 5+ years with proper maintenance washes. We recommend pairing every correction with a coating.
